Opel continues to grow in the German market in 2024

With the presentation of the Frontera, the Grandland and the facelift of the Mokka B in 2024, Opel has already set the course for 2025. But the rest of the portfolio has also been convincing in Germany, according to Opel.

According to preliminary internal figures, almost 175,000 passenger cars and light commercial vehicles have been registered in Germany. This corresponds to an increase of 6.4 percent compared to the previous year. The market share of the Rüsselsheim-based company thus rose from 5.3 percent in 2023 to 5.6 percent in 2024. Opel seems satisfied and reports: It has "achieved a strong result."

Opel's commercial vehicle division has played a large part in this success. More than 26,000 units sold contributed to the brand's success. This means that sales of the Opel ComboVivaro and Movano will increase by 40 percent compared to the previous year's result.

In terms of the overall market in Germany, Opel's market share in the light commercial vehicle segment will thus increase from 7.1 percent to 9.1 percent.

"We achieved very good results in 2024 in our important German home market. Our attractive portfolio of light commercial vehicles and our bestseller Astra contributed to this in particular," said Opel Germany Brand CEO Patrick Dinger. "This confirms us on our course and gives us further tailwind for a confident start to the new year - with the further refined Mokka, the new particularly family-friendly Frontera and the Grandland," Dinger continues.

The Rüsselsheim-based company was able to increase its passenger car sales slightly. According to the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), 147,833 new registrations are responsible for Opel being able to increase its passenger car market share from 5.1 percent in 2023 to 5.2 percent in 2024.

In addition, Opel will probably also be able to look positively to 2025. Not only do the above-mentioned models complement and expand the range, but with the Ford Focus, an important player is also withdrawing from the German compact segment, which could give Opel a further boost in Astra sales in this country.
